In a significant move to tackle the growing traffic congestion and ensure public safety, the District Magistrate of Ludhiana, Jitendra Jain, has issued a formal order restricting the movement of heavy vehicles within the municipal limits of Khanna city.
According to the official order issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, heavy vehicles—including trucks, dumpers, tippers, trailers, and other vehicles exceeding specified weight limits—are now prohibited from entering the inner city areas between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. These vehicles will only be allowed to operate during the night-time window from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
Exceptions to the Ban
To ensure that essential services remain unaffected, the administration has exempted the following categories from these restrictions:
Emergency Services: Police vehicles, Fire Brigade, and Ambulances.
Essential Commodities: Vehicles carrying milk, LPG cylinders, vegetables, and food grains.
Authorized Transport: Any vehicle holding a specific written permission from the district administration.
The District Magistrate noted that the increasing traffic of heavy vehicles in the narrow city roads was posing a serious threat to lives and property, leading to frequent accidents. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna has been directed to strictly implement these orders.
These restrictions come into effect immediately from February 10, 2026, and will remain in force until April 9, 2026.
