Mansa, February 6, 2026
The District Magistrate of Mansa, Ms. Navjot Kaur, IAS, has imposed restrictions on the movement of tipper trucks along roads passing by schools in the district, in a bid to enhance the safety of children during school hours.
Invoking powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the order prohibits tipper vehicles from plying on such stretches between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. (school opening time) and 2:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (closing time). The restriction will not apply on holidays or non-working days for schools.
The measure follows a communication from the Chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which highlighted the need to regulate heavy vehicle movement near educational institutions in various towns and cities to prevent unfortunate accidents involving schoolchildren.
The Regional Transport Officer, Mansa, had submitted a report detailing the opening and closing timings of government, private aided, and recognised primary, middle, high, and senior secondary schools across the district, which formed the basis for fixing these time slots.
The order, aimed at minimising risks to students commuting to and from school, will remain in force until February 28, 2026.
Such steps reflect growing concern over road safety around school zones, where heavy vehicles like tippers — often associated with construction and sand transportation — can pose serious hazards in areas frequented by young pedestrians and school buses. Local authorities hope the timed curbs will bring about a noticeable improvement in safety for thousands of school-going children in Mansa.
